April at the Gallery

This month: New work and new artists, upcoming exhibitions, collage night and a workshop!

This month you'll find the work of six new Canadian collagists hanging at the gallery. A big welcome to Ebony Jansen, Jay Hodgson, Jen Worden, Flavia Mauricio, Korey Steckle and Joey Poirier (link to Joey's work, 'Christo', below. Find their work on the website now!

Artists were invited to prepare work for the upcoming exhibition 'Trashed: Art as Diversion' that will coincide with Open City HFX and World Collage Day on May 13th. This show will delve into the issue of waste and how collage and assemblage artists can creatively divert items from the landfill and bring awareness to the topic through art. A group installation called 'Put a Lid on It' that asks artists to create a collage using a jar lid as the substrate to discuss things they wish they could 'put a lid on' will be a highlight of the show. QR codes will be used to allow viewers to interact with and learn from the exhibit. An opening is planned for that evening from 5-8pm with light refreshments offered throughout. Add it to your calendars!

Collage night, a self-guided session in which the gallery provides all materials for collage creation, is planned for April 11 from 6 to 9pm at a cost of $5. Get tickets below.

The Eric Carle workshop is back this month!! Join Rhonda in painting and preparing bold, colorful papers to be used in a graphic collage of spring time tulips in the style of Eric Carle from 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar' fame. All materials are provided, along with light refreshments for $40. Scheduled for April 30, 1-4pm

Walk in Monday to Friday, 12-5:30pm (between 2-3 the gallery may be closed to allow pick up of my child from school) or between 12-3pm on Saturday.
